3rd XI & Sunday XI still in hunt to win thier leagues
Welcome to the website of Downham Town CC, one of the oldest club's in Norfolk's long cricketing history, and also one of West Norfolk's only two representatives in the top league of Norfolk cricket. On this site you will be able to find a wealth of information about the club, it's player, teams, recent achievements, as well as a whole host of other information including how to become a member and details of specialist coaching opportunities with ECB qualified caoches within the club.
For a quick intro, on Saturdays we field three teams who engage themselves in county-wide league action, and a further one on Sundays. The club also boasts a strong youth structure with teams at three different age levels, and a recently formed ladies team, which has proved to be very popular and successful. All the teams also compete in county-wide cup competitions with high levels of success, especially in recent seasons, when the 1st XI have made regular appearances in the finals of high-profile competitions, winning both the Lady Mary Trophy and the Stan Biss Rose Bowl in 2006. These sides cater for a wide variety of talent and enthusiasm levels. Whether it's good banter or just a sheer, manic trophy-lust that you're after, there's a side to suit your needs.
We also hold regular club events, which are well supported by the local schools, and include awards evenings, BBQs, race nights and discos. All of these social occassions helped contribute towards DTCC being awarded the inaugural Norfolk Alliance Club of the Year award in 2003. This prize reflected the overall efforts of the club, from pitch quality and hospitality to player behaviour and preparation.
Outside of Norolk, annually an offshoot of the official club migrates south to spread the gospel of Norfolk cricket throughout Hertfordshire for one crazy hazy week in July. These 'Devilrays' have regularly recruited healthy numbers of (mostly) young chaps to help convince the world that ducks are fuzzy and vikings moo like cows. And they play some cricket too. This is the wing of the club which is most likely to appear in the 'Photos' section of this website. Those of a nervous disposition thankfully have no need to look away now however.
All in all, DTCC is a club which really does offer something for everyone. Please let us welcome you in to our website for general browsing, or if you're our oppo this coming weekend, to check up on who's been scoring runs and taking wickets against the other teams in your league.
